Long before the Portuguese occupation, the island of Flores is still known as Nusa Nipa and Rote called Nusa Eda. According to community leaders there Nipa means snake, but by no means the island is inhabited by many snakes just because it forms the island called Nusa Nipa by the local community. In addition to the legends and the beauty of the island’s history also records a story that is Indonesia’s first president Soekarno been exiled by the Dutch government. Until now the home of exile Soekarno is still maintained as a Historic Site and pretty much relics and historical records that are stored as a witness to the struggle at that time.
